Afforestation Campaign: (Vimukti : Pothnal)
A
tree is, perhaps, the most valuable gift provided
to mankind by Mother Nature. It gives us what is required for
living human life. Their very birth starts with the process of
providing wood, shade, fruits and oxygen. In cutting down trees,
humans fail to see their purpose and by destroying trees they
destroy the land itself. There was little hope this year when
the entire Raichur had some good showers of rain. A campaign was
organized at utaknoor High school of Raichur district by the
Vimukti Charitable Trust to create awareness against the growing
amputation of trees and of the need to preserve trees.

Obituary
‘I
cannot say and I will not say that he is dead, He just passed away’. My dear Brothers and sisters, perhaps these are the sentiments of
each one of us, specifically of his spiritual brothers and his
family members. Death is certain but is comes with uncertainty. It embraces all,
young and old. Death is blind, for it does not see whom it strikes.
Death is deaf for it does not hear the pea of man. That is the
mystery death, experienced by our Bro. Ullas Kumar at the age of 22.
He was born on 28th April 1989 of Mr. Bernard and Mrs Annamma in M.

CENTINARIAN CAPUCHIN FR. APOLINARIS PINTO (1911 – 2011)
“None of us lives for
himself, nor dies for himself. If we live, we live for the Lord, and if we
die, we die for the Lord” (Rom 14:7-9). Fr. Apolinaris Pinto may well be
said to have lived his life, a long life of nearly 101 years in the spirit
of these words of St. Paul. The older he got he added more ‘life’ to his
years –he did it in nearly 78 years of consecrated life as a Capuchin
Franciscan and 70 years of priestly life after the heart and mind of Christ

Closing

and thanking God for the assistance and blessings received all through the
year. “All through the year you have been at my side O Lord” was the song on
everyone’s lips. The community celebrated the mass presided over by Rev. Fr.
Edwin Colaco, the Rector of Kripalaya. Fr. Rector reminded in his Homily the
difference between gaining Knowledge and growing in Knowledge. “Mere
collecting books,” he said, “printed materials or some digital data is not
growing in knowledge but it is adding to our possession. To grow in
knowledge is to bring change in ones life.” After the mass all enjoyed
the delicacies of the hard labor of some of our brothers in the sumptuous
dinner prepared by them.

Inauguration
of the Platinum Jubilee
of St. Anne’s Friary and Inauguration of the Assisi
House New building and Infirmary
12th of March 2011
was a red letter day for the St. Anne’s friary. Since the inception of the
friary it is seventy five years. The Capuchins first laid their foot in the
Mangalore diocese in the year 1930 and established their first house and
Novitiate at Monte Mariano Farangipet. Meanwhile as they were growing in
numbers and involved in Pastoral and Spiritual ministry, they felt the need
to establish a transit house in the city as it was difficult for them to
reach out everyone. Therefore they were looking for a transit house in the
City. At this juncture in the year 1936 as good Samaritan came forward Mr.
George Lobo a Jailer in the prison came forward to donate his house and a
little portion of his land to the capuchins with the condition that His wife
Mrs. Anna’s name should be given to the friary, thus it was known as St.
Anne’s Friary. The rest of the land was purchased by the friars.
